RENEGADES ANNOUNCE NEW 2011-2012 SEASON SCHEDULE

Rio Rancho, NM – The Renegades will open their 1st season under new Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon on October 14th against the Arizona Redhakws.  Like all Western States League Teams, the Renegades play a 42 game regular season as well as a 4 game Showcase in Las Vegas, NV.

The Renegades will spend the majority of the first half of their season in Rio Rancho, where they will play 5 home series before the WSHL Showcase in December; The first half sees the Renegades play all but one of their Mid-West Division foes when the Dallas Snipers (Nov 4th), El Paso Rhinos (Dec 2nd) and Dallas Ice Jets (Dec 9th) make their way to the Blades Multiplex.  As well, the Rocky Mountain Division Ogden Mustangs and the Park City Moose will make their first trips to New Mexico on October 28th and November 18th. 

The Renegades will hit the road for their Season Opener on October 14th when they travel to Peoria to face the Arizona Red Hawks, with their last away series of the first half coming against the Dallas Ice Jets on November 11th.

After the Christmas and New Years break the Renegades are on the road for 3 consecutive series against the Texas Brahmas, El Paso Rhinos and defending WSHL Champion Idaho Jr. Steelheads.

The Renegades return home to play the Texas Brahmas and the newly relocated Cheyenne Stampede on January 27th and February 3rd respectively.

The Renegades end their regular season on the road against the Dallas Snipers and Boulder Bison on February 10th and February 24th.

All Renegade games are 3-game series with home games starting at 8:30 pm both Friday and Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday.  All home dates are Mountain Standard Time.

Exhibition game dates announced – The New Mexico Renegades are pleased to announce they will skate two exhibition games prior to the opening of the 2011-12 regular season.  Both tune-ups will be against the New Mexico University Lobos (ACHA) with the pre-season tilt scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16th and Sept. 17th.  Both start times will be at 8:30 pm and attendance will be donation-based to help support local youth hockey in New Mexico.

RENEGADES TO START SEASON WITH FUNDRAISER AGAINST LOBOS

Rio Rancho, NM – The New Mexico Renegades exhibition schedule will be a two game series against the University of New Mexico Lobos Club Hockey Team.  The games will be played on Friday and Saturday September 16th and 17th with puck drop at 8:30 PM at the Blades Multiplex.  Both exhibition games are free of admission but a donation is kindly appreciated.  All donations from Friday’s game will be going to the New Mexico Amateur Hockey Association, while Saturday’s donations will be going to Land of Enchantment Amateur Hockey Association.  The New Mexico Renegades are proud supports of local youth hockey in New Mexico and look forward to a lasting partnership with these organizations.

PARTNERSHIP FORMED

The Western States Hockey League (WSHL) Board of Governors are pleased to announce today a new partnership with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

The AAU is the premier amateur sports service provider since 1887. With such a distinguished history of providing amateur sports the leadership and opportunities to compete with the following advantages:

  • 40+ sports involved as members of the AAU such as, basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, gymnastics, football, roller hockey and many more.
  • 250+ national championship tournaments annually
  • Affiliations with USOC, NCAA, NFSHSA, NCSG, USA Basketball, USA Football and more
  • Participant insurance package designed to protect the athletes and event venues

Commissioner Ron White of the WSHL said, “The Board of Governors are pleased to join such a professionally organization allowing the WSHL Competition Plan the most flexible program to seek higher levels of competition and participation. This new alignment with the AAU will provide the WSHL and its member teams with the highest level of amateur athletic representation, superior insurance coverage and the autonomy necessary to govern their business of operating a premiere Junior ‘A’ hockey league. ”

AAU National Hockey Chair, Keith Noll commented on the new alliance, “The AAU Sports Program is very pleased to welcome the WSHL to the AAU”.

RENEGADES NAME NEW HEAD COACH

 

The New Mexico Renegades are excited to announce the hiring of Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon. Michael Gershon comes to New Mexico after a career ending injury in Pro hockey. As well as finishing an internship with the New York Rangers. Coach Gershon also played four years of NCAA college hockey for Brockport (SUNYAC).

Coach Gershon looks forward to taking the lead role of the New Mexico Renegades and also working closely with the local youth hockey organizations to help develop and promote hockey in the New Mexico region.

Coach Gershon will be relocating from New Jersey with his fiancée' Keri and 1 year old English Bull Dog Hennessy
